An evening with Friedemann Vogel in Stuttgart

Friedemann is very touched to have a special evening dedicated to honouring his 25th anniversary. He is looking forward to sharing some highlights and challenges of his career, speaking about memorable roles and performing globally, as well as showing film excerpts that shine the spotlight on key moments over the years. But most of all, he is delighted to celebrate this milestone by performing one of his all-time favourite works: Béjart’s masterpiece: “Boléro”.

The entire proceeds of the evening will be donated to the John Cranko School, to support the young dancers.

Art for a good cause. Starting today, five of the photos of Friedemann Vogel taken by Oliver Kröning for the "Physical Conversation" series currently on display at the StadtPalais - Museum für Stuttgart will be available for auction via EPPLI Auction House, with all proceeds going to the Olgäle-Stiftung Foundation for Sick Children!

Following Onegin with Stuttgart Ballet in November, Friedemann will be back in Beijing again on 1st December, on this occasion as guest artist of the National Ballet of China, to reprise the role of Albrecht in Giselle with Qimin Wang as the tragic heroine. It will be the first time Friedemann performs this beloved ballet classic with the National Ballet of China.

Ballet Week with the Stuttgart Ballet

For the highly anticipated Ballet Week, Friedemann will be performing five productions from the Stuttgart Ballet’s 2018-2019 season, including Balanchine’s Symphony in C in Shades of White on 16th & 20th July, Akram Khan’s Kaash in Breath-taking on 24th July, John Neumeier’s The Lady of the Camellias on 25th July, Jiří Kylián’s One of a Kind on 27th July, and finally closing with Kenneth MacMillan’s Mayerling on 28th July. Friedemann is looking forward to revisiting these ballet masterpieces and contemporary classics in this annual celebration of dance.

To celebrate the bicentenary of the legendary French dancer and choreographer Marius Petipa, the Bolshoi Ballet will be organising a World Ballet Stars Gala on 31st May and 1st June, bringing Friedemann back to one of his favourite stages at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, where he will be performing the Mirror pas de deux from Onegin with Prima Ballerina of Bolshoi Theatre Olga Smirnova

Friedemann is delighted to be featured in the Ballet Couture exhibition in Paris, which brings together two creative universes: ballet and couture. Visitors can expect to see photos of Friedemann taken by Youn Sik Kim, Baki and by Matthew Brookes for Vogue Russia. With a diverse selection of exceptional photographs, this exhibition not only presents the world of the greatest ballet dancers and their costumes, but will also reveal collaborations between fashion designers and choreographers with the photographic and aesthetic perspective of artists across generations. Curated by Frédéric Fontan, Ballet Couture will run from 15 March to 4 May at the Alfalibra Gallery, at 324 rue Saint-Martin 75003 Paris. For the first time, Friedemann will be participating in Dance Salad, which celebrates both emerging and established choreographers. For the 2018 edition of this festival, Friedemann will be performing with Guillaume Côté from the National Ballet of Canada, Maurice Béjart's masterpiece Songs of a Wayfarer from 29 to 31 March. The two principal dancers last performed this duet in Montreal, for "A Night with the Stars", as part of the 2017 Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur. This will be Friedemann's debut in Texas, Houston.

Friedemann is thrilled to be featured in the 7th edition of the annual Fashion for Men magazine, newly launched at Colette in Paris, and available soon in fashion & design capitals around the world. It was a total joy for Friedemann to work with the magazine’s founder Milan Vukmirovic himself for the photo shoot. Friedemann was dressed by Fendi, making this his second collaboration with the Italian luxury brand for a magazine feature.

Gala Hivernales de la Danse in Belgium

Friedemann will make his debut in Liège in the 6th edition of the Gala Hivernales de la Danse, at the Manège de la Caserne Fonckon 10th & 11th March. Friedemann will be dancing with fellow Stuttgart Ballet étoile Alicia Amatriain two duets: Mauro Bigonzetti's Kazimir's Colours and the  Swan Lake Act II pas de deux.

Friedemann's first performance of 2018 will be in the Stuttgart Ballet  Encounters double-bill: Jerome Robbin's multi-layered masterpiece Dances at a Gathering – a nuanced distillation of the spectrum of human interaction - and John Cranko’s ode to friendship Initials R.B.M.E. (dedicated to former Stuttgart Ballet principal dancers Richard Cragun, Birgit Keil, Marcia Haydee, and Egon Madsen). Friedemann will perform in both revivals for the opening night on 13 January. It is always a pleasure to dance Swan Lake, especially when it has been a while since Friedemann’s last performance of this ever-popular ballet. Friedemann is looking forward to reprising his role as Prince Siegfried and being torn between Alicia Amatriain’s Odile and Odette, for the opening night of this John Cranko classic on 6 December in Stuttgart. More performances to follow later in the month.

Friedemann Vogel and Alicia Amatriain - his longtime dance partner and fellow Stuttgart Ballet étoile – first started dancing together at the John Cranko Schule when they were just 14 years old.  It is therefore with great pleasure and anticipation that Friedemann joins Alicia & Friends in her hometown, San Sebastián on 10th and 11th November, to perform a mixture of classical and contemporary repertoire.  Incidentally, this will be Friedemann’s debut in San Sebastián.

50th anniversary of John Cranko's Onegin at Stuttgart Ballet

Friedemann will be reprising the dramatic role of Onegin, this time with Alicia Amatriain as Tatjana, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of John Cranko's Onegin at Stuttgart Ballet, where it all began. Friedemann can't wait to perform this Cranko classic in its entirety again on 27th October. More performances in November.

Having made his debut as Onegin in Singapore in 2014, Friedemann is excited to return with Stuttgart Ballet to The Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, to perform another John Cranko classic: Romeo & Juliet. Friedemann will be dancing Romeo for one night only on 12th October, with Alicia Amatriain as his Juliet.

Friedemann is looking forward to opening the new Stuttgart Ballet season with Brouillards, part of the Pure Cranko gala to commemorate the 90th birthday of John Cranko this year, with three performances on 3rd, 6th and 7th October. Created in 1970 for the Stuttgart Ballet , Brouillards – meaning “Mist” in French – comprises a series of episodes, and derived its inspiration from the piano preludes of Debussy written from 1910 to 1913.
