As always, Friedemann is delighted to be performing in Japan again, this time as a special guest of Paris Opera Ballet étoiles in Le Grand Gala . Friedemann will be partnering Amandine Albisson, Leonore Baulac, and Ludmila Pagliero to dance a range of classical and contemporary pieces from 30 July to 5 August at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Nagoya and Osaka.

Friedemann is thrilled to be going back to Tokyo so soon, this time with the Stuttgart Ballet for a special gala. In addition to dancing two pas de deux with Elisa Badenes - from John Cranko's Onegin and Kenneth MacMillan's Mayerling - Friedemann will be exceptionally performing Béjart's masterpiece Boléro with the Tokyo Ballet. The gala will take place from 19th to 21st March, and Friedemann is really looking forward to dancing for the audience in Japan again. For the Stuttgart Ballet's tour to Beijing in 2019, Friedemann will be dancing his critically acclaimed role of Onegin on the opening night on 1st November. He is looking forward to perform this masterpiece by John Cranko for the Chinese audience, and to being back on stage in China after nearly three years.

Kaash - meaning “if” in Hindi – was Akram Khan’s first full-length work, and Stuttgart Ballet’s premiere of Kaash will present several firsts for Friedemann. As always, Friedemann embraces the opportunity to acquire a different movement vocabulary, particularly the notable interplay between speed and stillness in the classical North Indian dance. As a ballet dancer, he is also excited to interpret this seminal piece by the eminent British choreographer, who broke new ground informing contemporary dance with kathak. Friedemann will perform Kaash for the opening night of the triple-bill Breath-Taking on 28th June, with more performances to follow.

Friedemann has always enjoyed performing widely contrasting work across the dance spectrum, from romantic hero roles like Armand Duval in John Neumeier’s The Lady of the Camellias to more contemporary productions such as the upcoming Stuttgart Ballet premiere of Jiří Kylián’s One of A Kind. Having performed Bella Figura and Forgotten Land- two other critically acclaimed pieces by the world-renowned choreographer -  Friedemann is looking forward to dancing One of A Kind for the opening night on 22 February, with more shows to follow.

Onegin on ARTE

John Cranko's celebrated masterpiece Onegin will be on TV on 30 & 31 December! Onegin is one Friedemann's most cherished roles, and he hopes this festive season screening on ARTE will bring equal delight to viewers discovering this dramatic ballet for the first time and those who have already experienced it on stage or on the big screen. Filmed on the occasion of its 50th anniversary last year, this Stuttgart Ballet production features Friedemann as "the most elegant and elegiac Onegin of all time" (Suedwest Presse), and is also available for purchase from Amazon on Blu-Ray and DVD.

Friedemann collaborated with Tokyo-based Singapore fashion photographer Leslie Kee for the August edition of Vogue Taiwan. For this feature, Friedemann wore outfits primarily by Japanese fashion designers, including Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, and Roggykei.

Following his performance with Tokyo Ballet as guest artist in spring, Friedemann is thrilled to go back to Japan for the second time this year, for the World Ballet Festival in summer. To celebrate the bicentenary of the legendary French dancer and choreographer Marius Petipa, the Bolshoi Ballet will be organising a World Ballet Stars Gala on 31st May and 1st June, bringing Friedemann back to one of his favourite stages at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, where he will be performing the Mirror pas de deux from Onegin with Prima Ballerina of Bolshoi Theatre Olga Smirnova

Following his premiere in Sir Frederick Ashton’s The Dream with Sarasota Ballet in March , Friedemann will reprise his role as Oberon as guest artist with the Tokyo Ballet on 28 and 30 Apr at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. Friedemann has not performed in Tokyo since his last tour there in 2015 with Stuttgart Ballet, and is excited to be back in one of his favourite cities, as well as to collaborate with the Tokyo Ballet again.

Having performed Sir Frederick Ashton’s Marguerite and Armand in the 2016 Fall for Dance Festival in New York with the Sarasota Ballet, Friedemann is looking forward to working with the company again, this time as guest artist in another Ashton choreography: The Dream. Friedemann is particularly delighted and honoured to have the opportunity to work with Sir Anthony Dowell – his childhood hero and one of the greatest danseur nobles of the 20th Century – on the role of Oberon that was created on him. Friedemann will be making his debut in Sarasota, with two performances of The Dream on 2 and 3 March 2018.

Having made his debut as Onegin in Singapore in 2014, Friedemann is excited to return with Stuttgart Ballet to The Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, to perform another John Cranko classic: Romeo & Juliet. Friedemann will be dancing Romeo for one night only on 12th October, with Alicia Amatriain as his Juliet.

Friedemann is looking forward to opening the new Stuttgart Ballet season with Brouillards, part of the Pure Cranko gala to commemorate the 90th birthday of John Cranko this year, with three performances on 3rd, 6th and 7th October. Created in 1970 for the Stuttgart Ballet , Brouillards – meaning “Mist” in French – comprises a series of episodes, and derived its inspiration from the piano preludes of Debussy written from 1910 to 1913.

Following the iconic Boléro, Friedemann is thrilled to perform another Béjart masterpiece: Songs of a Wayfarer. He will be reprising the role originally created for Nureyev, at the invitation of  Guillaume Cote - Artistic Director of the Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur - to perform this duet with him in the programme "A Night with the Stars" on 5 & 6 August. This will be the first time Friedemann is dancing with Guillaume Cote, as well as his first ever performance in Montreal.
